Great start to the MSW Boys Representative Season
Sunday saw the start of the MSW boys representative season with most of our teams playing SEQ. It was fantastic to see the players, parents and team officials displaying great sportsmanship and rallying together as a team. For a lot of these players it was their very first time putting on the blue, red and white. MSW is extremely proud of all the players which competed in Sunday's games.
Under 12 RedMSW 12 Red lost the toss and was asked to bowl. Some tight bowling and brilliant fielding from the team restricted SEQ to 5/104 after 25 overs. MSW made a cautious start, being 1/19 after 13 overs. The key was seeing off the new ball and keeping wickets in hand. The Batman upped the tempo to finish 1/90 after 25 overs.A great team bowling effort with the quicks up front and the spinners through the middle and back end busking SEQ our for 162 in the 45th over. The fielding was superb which was lead by Harrison “aka Jonty Rhodes” taking 2 catches and 2 direct hits for run outs. A captains knock of 56no (from Rory Hilton) together with good support from all other batsman achieving the SEQ total with several overs to spare. MSW eventually finishing their 59 overs at 4/224.It was pleasing to see how well the boys got on and the quality of their cricket today. The fielding was great which really backed up there bowlers and all batsmen contributing to the team performance.
Under 12 BlueThe boys went into field first and took 4 early wickets during the first 25 over period before a partnership from SEQ took them through to the first break. Going into bat there were some clear nerves as we struggled in our first 25 with some good fielding from the opposition. Going back into the field a stream of wickets was kicked off by a Yash Kamath run-out and lead by a 4 wicket haul from Hrishith Vinodh to dismiss SEQ for 123. Going back into bat a partnership of 46 between Rishi Mehta and Hrishith Vinodh on either side of remaining wickets to get us within 12 before a great delivery ended the day. Overall, the boys put in a great effort for their first game together and have set-up a good base level to build on.
Under 13 RedIt was an extremely hot day at North Ipswich, but luckily the storms seemed to go around us. Team Red won the toss and batted in hot conditions in Ipswich against SEQ. After a quick wicket falling, Liam Bahemia (50no) and Aiden Mohr (51no) put together a hundred run partnership to set the team up for some late hitting from Tom Moloney (30no), Ollie Fay (19) and Sam Slatter (12). Some great running between wickets and sensible shot selection took the team to 3/217 off their 40 overs. SEQ were challenged early by some tight and fast bowling by Ishaan Kalia (1/6 off 5) and Ashish Neredimilli (1/18 off 6). Dilukha Gunatilake took three wickets for a handful of runs off his 7 overs. The team fielded well in the hot conditions with some great catching and a run out. SEQ could only manage 7/110 off their 40 overs.
Under 13 BlueIt was an extremely hot day at North Ipswich, but luckily the storms seemed to go around us. Under 13 State Champs
A good toss to win on a hot day saw us take the new ball first up while fresh and ready to go on what was a great batting deck..a superb fielding effort saw SEQ restricted to 199 with 3 run outs. All bowlers found their rhythm and contributed well as our bowling unit dug deep with one of our front line bowlers out and no sub....our batting backed up a good effort in field with our batting unit getting into their work quickly, our openers Nikhil and Xavier got us off to a dominant start and gave us the opportunity to retire and rotate batsman without losing a wicket until the 27th over. We then set up a late run chase to just fall short in the last over...credit to the SEQ team and coach for moving the game around at different stages to expose all boys to a variety of different scenarios in what was the perfect preparation for our first Championship game next week. We are ready to go!
Under 14 RedIt was a good day for the u14 red team. The boys did well.We were playing the SEQ U14 development team at John Paul's school grounds. Our boys won the toss and chose to bat. They batted their quota of 40 overs and scored 145 for the loss of 6 wickets. There was intent in their game and showed their desire to bat all the allotted overs. When we got in to field, the bowlers bowled well and allowed the opposition to score only 43 runs in 21 overs and had taken 9 wickets. The fielding and catching was also of a high standard. There were 14 extras given to the opposition which we will work on in the next games.
We had to call the game off due to thunder and lighting in the area.
